The Archive collects adaptations of cosmic horror and weird literature into Delta blues, bluegrass, big band swing, gothic Americana, and dark country. Each recording engages directly with a source text and imagines what that literature might sound like if it had entered the popular music tradition of its era rather than the pulp magazines.
Lyrics and album concepts are human-authored. Audio is rendered using generative models as an instrument for composition. The Archive is a literary adaptation project, not a band. It exists somewhere between a critical edition and a séance.
Everything sits inside a diegetic frame. These are presented as recordings recovered from a fictional Miskatonic Valley catalogue running from the 1920s to the present day. The frame is offered as an imaginative device rather than a claim of authenticity, in the same way a role-playing game presents itself as another world while the person holding the book knows it is a modern book.
