Brown Mountain Lights

On clear nights above Brown Mountain in the North Carolina foothills, glowing orbs of light rise, drift, and vanish, watched and argued over since at least the nineteenth century. The Cherokee had stories of them long before; later explanations ranged from train lights and swamp gas to ghosts of the dead searching the ridges, and government surveys have never quite settled the matter.

The lights are one of Appalachia's enduring mysteries, a thing that thousands have seen and no one has caught. A Man of Coastal Sorrow sets them to music among the cryptid sides.
