Dunwich

Dunwich is the other face of Lovecraft's Massachusetts, not a city but a decayed hill town in the north-central part of the state, shunned by its neighbours and left to rot among round-topped hills and standing stones. Its people are degenerate and inbred, its church long abandoned, and the whippoorwills cry on the nights when someone is dying, waiting to catch the departing soul.
It is the setting of The Dunwich Horror, the home of the Whateley family and their bargain with Yog-Sothoth, and a byword for backwoods cosmic dread, the sense that the old gods are closest where the land is poorest. The Innsmouth Sessions carries a whole cycle of Dunwich songs, set among those hills.
