The Pope Lick Monster

Beneath and upon the old railway trestle over Pope Lick Creek near Louisville, Kentucky, is said to dwell the Pope Lick Monster, a goat-legged, horned thing that lures people onto the high tracks with voices or hypnosis, to be struck by a train or to fall. The legend is sustained by real deaths, for the trestle is active and the drop is fatal, and thrill-seekers chasing the story have died upon it.
It is a modern American folk-horror, a monster whose true danger is the dare it represents. O Devil, Where Art Thou? carries its tale.
