The King in Yellow

Chambers gives us not one story but the rumour of a play, a forbidden drama in two acts whose first act is harmless and whose second act drives mad or damns everyone who reads it. Across several linked tales the play surfaces, and with it the Yellow Sign, the lost city of Carcosa, the Lake of Hali and the Pallid Mask of the King himself.
No one dramatises the second act, because to know it is to be lost. Chambers built a myth out of a book that cannot be read safely, and the King in Yellow has haunted weird fiction and the Mythos ever since, the original cursed text that ruins by being understood. The Archive sets the Pallid Mask swinging, elegant and wrong, the court of a king best left unread.
