The Shadow Out of Time

A political economist at Miskatonic loses five years of his life to an amnesia that is not amnesia. In that time another mind wore his body, for he was taken by the Great Race of Yith, an ancient people who survive by casting their minds across time into the bodies of other species, cataloguing all history in a vast library in the deep past.
Returned to his own age, he dreams of the alien city and will not believe it, until an expedition in the Australian desert leads him underground to the ruins themselves, and to a document in the dark that is written in his own hand. One of Lovecraft's grandest conceptions, it trades monsters for the vertigo of deep time and borrowed flesh. The Archive sets the Great Race swinging, a big-band figure for minds that travel the aeons.
